Doe period panties cause UTI? Does period underwear cause bacterial infections? Do period panties cause TSS? Can you wear period underwear all day? Is period underwear toxic?
Read on to find the answers to these questions and more:
Heralogie’s period undies have not been known to cause any UTI’s, TSS or bacterial infections. Our fabrics are quick dry and multi-layered, as well as made with anti-bacterial fabrics to account for this. Our general advice is to monitor your flow and change based on your personal flow and comfort level. We do not recommend wearing period underwear for over 12 hours at a time. Also we do not recommend sharing period panties or wearing garments if they have not been washed for multiple uses. If you have a particularly heavy flow, you can use these period panties as backup to a menstrual cup or other menstrual product as well.
Our period underwear is non-toxic. We have OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certifications on our garments to make sure they are indeed non-toxic. Not all period underwear is the same, and each manufacturer has their own blend of fabrics. Not all period underwear has been tested for toxins and carcinogens. Many generic tampons and pads do contain trace amounts of pesticides, bleach and carcinogens.
There are things you can do to make sure the undies do not accumulate bacteria as well. For example, wash undies soon after use. Use cold water to dissolve blood proteins. Use gentle laundry detergent to wash the garments. Hang dry in a sunny, dry and well-ventilated area (i.e. not in the shower/bathroom, where it is generally moist). This will help the underwear dry quicker as well.
Heralogie does not offer medical advice. Please refer to your OBGYN or doctor for personal professional advice.

It’s amazing how period underwear is becoming more commonplace these days as more and more people are environmentally minded. However it can be difficult to differentiate between the brands.
Heralogie is a small business that was founded in 2020 and launched in early 2020. Our fabrics are as sustainable as possible, with Tencel being the most prevalent fabric. Tencel is a sustainable fabric that is harvested under strict conditions via the company Lenzing. It is also known as Lenzing Modal. Modal is a super soft fabric that is softer and more absorbent than cotton. It is also very light, breathable yet durable. Tencel is harvested from beechwood tree pulp in Austria and surrounding areas. Modal is a fabric commonly used in shirts and intimates because of its comfortability. However, not all modal is made equal. Unfortunately, many companies harvest modal using unsustainable measures, leading to deforestation in places like China and South East Asia.
After months of testing different fabrics such as recycled polyester, recycled nylon and organic cotton, we decided that Tencel was the highest quality and most sustainable fabric we could find. The “body” of all our products is made with Tencel. The body means the outer layer of the garment—usually the largest piece of fabric used.
The top layer in each of our products is organic cotton. This is gynecologist recommended to reduce irritation. The fabrics are also treated to be anti-bacterial and anti-odor.
The middle layers are made from a specialty fabric that dries quickly, allowing you to stay comfortable all day.
The last layer is eco-friendly TPU, or a heat-treated waterproof layer that keeps your clothes and sheets dry.
Heralogie is a woman of color small business that launched during the pandemic. Our Founder, Connie Shih, left her job on Wall Street to pursue a business that would both empower menstruators and benefit the environment.
We also try to keep our price point reasonable so that customers can access period underwear, even on limited budgets. Even substituting one pair of period underwear for one day on your period could have significant environmental and monetary benefits in the long run.

]]>Incontinence is an issue that affects millions of people worldwide. We at Heralogie aim to bash the stigmas related to incontinence and menstruation so people can get informed and take care of their bodies in a safe and healthy way.
Yes, our period panties at Heralogie can be used for incontinence. Our moderate absorbency styles can hold 40 mL, while our high absorbency styles (coming soon) can hold up to 50 mL. The absorbent layers in the gusset are quick dry and should keep you comfortable all day. Some users wear with backup for extra security. Many customers have found our products at Heralogie to be game changers in their everyday lives. No longer do they have to worry about running to the store to buy more incontinence pads. Our products allow customers to feel attractive and comfortable no matter what.
Many people experiencing incontinence or light bladder leakage don’t like wearing incontinence pads or adult diapers because they find them uncomfortable or unflattering. Some users like to wear these undies only at night or during exercise for convenience or comfort purposes. Period underwear provides a solution for both bladder leakage and menstruation.
Do not wear the products for more than 12 hours, share with anyone else, or wear multiple times without washing. The incontinence undies can be placed in the washing machine, but not the dryer because of the special materials in the gusset.

It takes one pad 500 years to decompose. The plastic applicators in tampons also are harmful to the environment. In the US, 12 billion pads and 7 billion tampons are thrown out each year. Additionally it takes high amounts of energy to manufacture the plastics in these products. Marine life can also be harmed via the plastic byproducts of these items as much of it actually ends up in oceans. They can also end up in sewers and/or get consumed by animals.
It may seem like a small issue, using a few tampons/pads each month, but the cumulative effects of using disposable plastic period products over the course of a lifetime is monumental. On average, menstruators dispose of around 330 lbs of waste during a lifetime of menstruation. Over 20 billion pounds of plastic waste is thrown out globally each year via period products.
Heralogie uses as many sustainable materials as possible to manufacture and package our products. The mailers are made of Kraft paper, a biodegradable and natural material. The other paper packaging in our products are made from recycled materials. The “plastic” bag that the period panties come in is biodegradable and made from cornstarch. The “body,” or the largest piece of fabric in all styles is made from Tencel, a sustainably sourced fabric made from beechwood trees. It is also known as Lenzing Modal and is created under strict guidelines to ensure sustainability. 95% of the chemicals used in processing Tencel is recycled, and the company Lenzing is as energy conscious as possible when manufacturing its products. The top layer of the gusset (crotch/absorbent area) is made from organic cotton. The bottom layer is made from eco-friendly TPU, a heat-processed fabric that ensures waterproofness.
Although there is no perfect solution for being 100% environmentally friendly in the manufacturing any product, we do our best as a small business and hope the compounding effects of our customers using our products will do the Earth good in the long run.

When you are around the date of your period, wear a pantyliner or period underwear to avoid surprises. Many customers prefer to wear period underwear to bed instead of traditional menstrual products because it is more comfortable. Wear dark bottoms. Always have a menstrual product with you like a menstrual cup or period undies just in case. Save special undies for days you know you won’t be spotting or menstruating.
If you still spot or leak using tampons or menstrual cups, try period panties, which will alleviate these concerns.
Menstrual cups stains can be treated by soaking in a mix of hydrogen peroxide and water.
To avoid period stains altogether, use period underwear. Wash shortly after use. The gussets on all our products is black. A gusset is the absorbent (crotch) area of the underwear. Most of our styles besides the Cloud Bikini have the gusset running all the way up to the waistband on both sides. Using period underwear saves you time and money in the long run. Plus, no more ruined panties!
